Size: 12 to 18 inches

Growth Form: Forb/herb, subshrub; Plants produce many stems, each topped by the inflorescence; bright red bracts, especially rich in color, and narrow tubular flowers, about one inch long.

Leaves: Stems are reddish-purple, and the leaves, while green in moist conditions, may also be purplish, either just along the edges or all over.

Flower Color: Red, scarlet or yellowish bracts; flowers greenish.

Flowering Season: May thru Sep

Comments: It is partially parasitic on the roots of other plants.
